Description

Title: SEN Early Years Practitioner

The Role: As an SEN Early Years Practitioner, you will work with children aged 0-5 years, supporting their learning, development and well-being within a nurturing Early Years environment. You may work across the settings or provide 1:1 support to children with Special Educational Needs, helping them access activities, develop communication and social skills, build confidence and become increasingly independent.

You will work closely with the wider Early Years teams to create exciting, engaging and inclusive learning opportunities that allow every child to explore, play, develop and progress. The ideal candidate will be creative, enthusiastic and happy to get involved whether that's leading activities indoors, getting stuck into messy play or exploring the outdoors with the children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care, support and learning opportunities for children aged 0-5.
  • Support children with a range of SEN and additional needs, including providing 1:1 support where required.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with children and their families.
  • Plan and deliver engaging play-based learning activities in line with the EYFS.
  • Adapt activities and communication approaches to meet individual children's needs.
  • Support children's communication, social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Observe, assess and contribute to children's individual learning and development.
  • Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 (or above) in Childcare/Early Years - essential.
  • Previous experience working within an Early Years setting.
  • Experience supporting children with SEN or additional needs.
  • A strong understanding of child development from 0-5 years.
  • Good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Experience planning and delivering engaging, play-based learning opportunities.
  • A sensitive and child-centred approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and plenty of energy!
  • A willingness to get involved with outdoor learning and practical activities.
  • The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual children's needs.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this)
