Veritas Education is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Support Assistants to work within a range of secondary schools across Wakefield. This rewarding role involves providing tailored support to students with additional learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop their confidence, and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a 1:1 Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide dedicated support to an individual student throughout the school day.
  • Assist students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Promote engagement, independence, and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement support strategies.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage personal and academic progress.
  • Support students with both classroom learning and social development.
  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational, care, coaching, youth work, or support setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Two professional references covering the last two years.
