Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire Start Date: October Half Term 2026 Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Employer: Veritas Education (on behalf of a partner secondary school)
About the Role
Veritas Education is working in partnership with a well-respected secondary school in Bradford to recruit an experienced and committed Head of Year for a full-time, long-term position starting from October Half Term 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a strong pastoral professional to lead and support a designated year group, ensuring students achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in promoting positive behaviour, improving attendance, enhancing student wellbeing, and maintaining high standards across the year group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the pastoral care and development of a designated year group
- Monitor and support student attendance, behaviour, punctuality, and wellbeing
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and staff
- Work closely with senior leaders, safeguarding teams, and teaching staff
- Identify and support students who may be facing barriers to learning
- Manage behaviour incidents and coordinate appropriate interventions
- Lead assemblies, reward systems, and year group initiatives
- Attend parental meetings and communicate effectively with families
- Maintain accurate pastoral records and reports
- Liaise with external agencies where appropriate
The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience in a pastoral, behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, or student support role
- Experience working with secondary-age students
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people
- Resilient, proactive, and solution-focused approach
- Passionate about improving outcomes for students
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
