SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Preston, Lancashire
About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs within a welcoming and inclusive school in Preston. This rewarding role involves providing tailored one-to-one support to help a child access learning, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and be confident supporting a range of complex learning, behavioural, and communication needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN throughout the school day.
- Implement strategies outlined within the pupil's EHCP and support plans.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and independence.
- Support emotional regulation and social development.
- Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of support provided.
- Ensure the pupil remains safe, engaged, and included in all aspects of school life.
- Support with personal care where required.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive SEN experience within a school, specialist provision, or similar educational setting.
- Proven experience supporting children on a 1:1 basis.
- Strong knowledge of SEN, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs)
- Speech and Language Needs
- Learning Difficulties
- Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training.
- Experience working with EHCPs.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices.
- First Aid qualification.
