A welcoming and supportive secondary school in Waltham Forest are looking for a Psychology Graduate to join the team. This Psychology Graduate role would involve working as a SEN TA, supporting children aged 11-16 with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a great opportunity for a recent Psychology Graduate to gain experiece with young people with a range of additional needs. You will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with SEN within a mainstream secondary environment. As a SEN TA your focus will be on guiding and working with students who need a bit more help, as well as supporting the needs of the class. You will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with SEN within a mainstream secondary environment. Your role could involve working within a specific SEN department, within multiple different age groups/subject groups, or with individual students on a intervention basis. As an SEN TA no day is the same, and the role would best suit someone who adapts easily and is proactive.

As a SEN TA, you will be working in a supportive and nurturing secondary school, working closely with both staff and students to improve learning outcomes for all. The staff are close knit, and have a mutualy respectful relationship with the student body. The school is well connected by transport links, including over and under ground, railway and buses. This would be a full time, long term position within a warm and welcoming environment.

Whilst experience with children and young people is always appreciated, the most important thing for a SEN TAS to have is a desire to support young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Implementing tailored learning strategies and interventions as directed by the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Collaborating with teachers and other support staff to ensure the individual needs of students are met effectively.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of differentiated activities to support student progress.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Requirements:

  • A Psychology degree (min lower second)
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Strong understanding of various Special Educational Needs and associated support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting the diverse needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable but not essential).
