Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Type: Permanent Salary: £19,000 - £22,500 Hours: 32.5 - 35 hours per week

The Role

Veritas Education are currently recruiting for Permanent Special Needs Teaching Assistants to join a range of schools and specialist provisions across Leeds.

We work with Special Needs Schools, Mainstream Schools and in-house SEN provisions, offering opportunities to support children and young people with a wide range of additional needs.

Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant or looking to develop your career within SEN, we have a variety of permanent opportunities available.

The Roles

Special Needs Support - Supporting learners with Autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, sensory needs and learning disabilities, helping them access learning and develop their confidence and independence.

Behaviour Support - Working with learners who present with challenging or at-risk behaviour, including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Complex Support - Supporting children and young people with complex learning, physical and medical needs, helping them engage safely and positively with their education.

Mainstream Teaching Assistant - Supporting pupils within mainstream classrooms, as well as dedicated SEN provisions and specialist centres within schools.

College Support - Opportunities within mainstream and specialist post-16 settings, supporting young people aged 16-19 with their education, independence and preparation for adulthood.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Adaptable, able to meet the individual needs of different learners.

  • Confident working as part of a wider school team.

  • Resilient, with the ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

  • Committed to creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

  • Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.

  • SEN, education, childcare, care or support experience is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's well-being.

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, SEN, Childcare or Health & Social Care are desirable but not essential.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable, or willingness to apply.
