Are you an experienced, patient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong background supporting children and young people with complex needs?
We are recruiting for a Complex Needs SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Guildford GU5 area, supporting pupils with complex learning, communication, physical and additional needs.
This role would suit someone who is passionate about specialist education and understands the importance of providing consistent, individualised and nurturing support.
The Role
As a Complex Needs SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
Support communication, cognition, physical development, sensory needs and emotional wellbeing.
Assist with personalised learning programmes and individual targets.
Use appropriate sensory and communication strategies.
Support pupils who may have PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities or other complex needs.
Encourage independence, confidence, communication and functional life skills.
Support personal care where required, following appropriate training.
Follow individual EHCP, behaviour and support plans.
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals.
Monitor pupil progress, wellbeing and engagement.
Help maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong experience supporting children or young people with complex needs.
Experience within SEN schools, specialist provisions, residential care or similar settings.
Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities or significant learning difficulties.
Understanding of sensory needs, communication difficulties and individualised support.
Confidence supporting pupils who require personal care or physical assistance.
A calm, patient and resilient approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A flexible and adaptable approach.
Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.
Experience with Makaton, PECS, AAC, sensory approaches or moving and handling would be beneficial.
You don't necessarily need a formal teaching qualification. If you have strong hands-on experience supporting children or young people with complex needs, we'd like to hear from you.
