Type: Contract and Permanent

The Role:

An SEN support mentor will work alongside teaching assistants, class teachers, leadership and external support staff in creating a safe, structured, interactive and fun learning environment.

The role will be working with children who have a range of learning needs, such as Autism, Asperger's, Down Syndrome and other learning disabilities, along with supporting their social development, behavioural needs and at times, medical/physical requirements.

The ideal candidate will be…

  • Pro-Active: Be passionate and committed to creating a fun, interactive and creative learning environment, be willing to get involved in the learners' classes and play sessions.
  • Confident: Be comfortable supporting a range of different needs across multiple age groups, and able to adapt your care and support style depending on the class you are working with.
  • Passionate: Someone who has the children's care and education at the forefront of everything they do, whether that is creating new ideas for the sensory session or sitting 1:1 with a learner to focus on communication development.
  • Resilient: SEN based roles can be tough at times, a support mentor will be someone who helps other staff during those busy times and helps calm the situation when children get upset or go into crisis!
