Art & PSHE Teacher Location: North-West London Salary: £180-£240 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications) Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term supply
About the School
We've partnered with a fantastic alternative provision which caters to mixed students aged 5 to 16, many of whom have experienced disrupted education, behavioural, social, emotional, and mental health needs. Classes are small, caring, and supportive with high staff-to-student ratios. The school emphasises inclusion, re-engagement, personal development, and preparing students for successful transitions back into mainstream education, further education, or employment.
Role Purpose
To design, plan, and deliver creative, inclusive and engaging art and PSHE lessons that support the holistic development of students. The successful candidate will help foster a safe and positive learning environment, support students with diverse needs including SEN, and contribute to the curriculum and enrichment activities that promote wellbeing, self-expression, resilience, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Art lessons and PSHE sessions across Key Stage 1-4 (ages 5-16), aligned with school vision and statutory requirements.
- Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students who may have SEN, behavioural challenges, disrupted learning histories, or irregular attendance.
- Use creative teaching methods (art projects, media, discussion, role-play, reflective work) to support emotional, social, and personal development.
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback, assess PSHE & Art outcomes, and maintain records.
- Collaborate with SENCO, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to support students' wellbeing and academic progress.
- Contribute to enrichment: after-school clubs, displays, exhibitions, cross-curricular work, and whole-school PSHE initiatives.
- Maintain classroom management and positive behaviour support, de-escalation strategies when needed.
Qualifications & Skills Must-Haves
- Qualified Teacher Status (QT S) or equivalent, preferable but not always mandatory; strong experience in Art and/or PSHE teaching acceptable.
- Enhanced Child DBS.
- Experience of working with pupils aged 5-16, especially those with SEN and/or challenging behaviour.
- Strong subject knowledge in Art, and excellent understanding of PSHE/RSE (Relationships & Sex Education), health education, wellbeing, etc.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to build trust with students, parents, and other staff.
- Creativity, ability to engage students through interactive and expressive methods.
- Ability to plan and manage differentiated tasks and support learners with varying social, emotional and academic needs.
