Job Title: SEN Behaviour Support Assistant Location: Primary School, Lewisham Salary: £85 - £130 per day (dependent on experience) Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Start Date: ASAP
Veritas Education is currently recruiting on behalf of a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Lewisham that is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Behaviour Support Assistant to join their specialist behavioural provision.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in behavioural management, an understanding of SEMH needs, and experience working in high-pressure or emotionally demanding settings.
Role Overview:
You will support pupils with a range of behavioural and emotional difficulties, some of whom may have a formal diagnosis such as ADHD, autism, or trauma-related needs. Working within a dedicated unit, you'll help deliver structured, therapeutic, and consistent support to help pupils access learning and develop positive coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to pupils with challenging behaviour on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Help implement behaviour support plans and provide emotional regulation strategies
- De-escalate incidents and respond appropriately to high-stress situations
- Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
- Build trusting relationships to support pupils' emotional development
- Safely and professionally use Positive Handling techniques when required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Proven experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour
- Confidence working in stressful, emotionally charged environments
- Good understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs
- In-date Positive Handling training (Team Teach or equivalent - essential)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A calm, consistent, and patient approach to behaviour intervention
- A valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply through Veritas Education)
