SEMH Teaching Assistant
At Veritas Education, we're proud to partner with special schools across Barnsley and the surrounding areas, providing essential support to both pupils and staff. We're currently seeking compassionate, dedicated, and experienced support staff to fill multiple positions that have recently become available.
The Role:
- As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll support both the teacher and students in our partner special schools.
- You'll work with students on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them with a range of additional needs.
- A key part of your role will be supporting teachers to manage challenging behaviour in the classroom.
- You'll work with pupils who may have challenging emotional backgrounds, offering vital emotional support.
- You'll help lead activities designed to aid pupils' physical and emotional development.
Ideal Candidate
- We're looking for someone with a strong background in care, ideally supporting students from challenging backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to stay calm and composed in all situations.
- You'll need to build strong, trusting relationships with children and young adults, helping to reduce tension and provide a supportive environment.
- Brilliant listening skills are a must, as you'll need to handle sensitive and emotional conversations with pupils who may have experienced disadvantage or hardship.
- Team Teach training is desirable, but not essential.
- A good understanding of how to support children and young people from diverse backgrounds is key.
