The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Interim Director of Finance & Operations / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide full-time cover for a period of absence within a multi-site school environment in South East London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance and operations professional with strong leadership skills and experience managing financial functions within an educational or similarly complex organisation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining continuity across the finance and operations functions, ensuring effective financial management and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the organisation throughout the cover period.
The Role
As Interim Director of Finance & Operations / CFO, you will take responsibility for overseeing the organisation's financial and operational functions, providing strategic insight alongside hands-on leadership.
You will work closely with senior leaders and colleagues to ensure robust financial controls, effective resource management and the continued delivery of operational priorities.
The role will be full-time and based across three sites in South East London. Travel between sites will be required, so candidates must be confident travelling independently between locations.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a confident and capable professional who can quickly establish themselves in the role and provide effective leadership from the outset.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally as a Finance Director, CFO or equivalent.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting and reporting skills.
- Experience overseeing operational functions and managing competing priorities.
- The ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders and provide clear financial guidance.
- Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to hit the ground running and manage responsibilities independently.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between all three sites.
Experience within the education sector, particularly in a school or multi-site environment, would be advantageous.
Contract Details
This is a full-time temporary assignment providing cover until 31 December 2026. The start date is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be within the coming weeks.
Due to the urgency of the appointment, we are particularly interested in candidates who are immediately available or able to start at short notice.

- Elmira Street, London SE13 7BN
