Are you a confident, resilient and experienced Behaviour Teaching Assistant who can build strong relationships with young people and manage challenging behaviour effectively?
We are recruiting for a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a specialist boys' SEMH school in Wandsworth, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and challenging behaviour.
This role would suit someone who is calm under pressure, confident setting boundaries and able to use positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies to help pupils manage their emotions and engage with education.
The Role
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support.
Support pupils with challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation and barriers to learning.
Build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
Use effective de-escalation and behaviour management strategies.
Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and social development.
Help pupils recognise triggers and develop positive coping strategies.
Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning.
Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.
Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging situations.
Follow individual behaviour, risk and support plans.
Record and monitor behaviour, progress and wellbeing.
Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals.
Help maintain a safe, structured and consistent environment.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour.
Experience in SEMH schools, PRUs, alternative provision, residential care, youth work or behaviour support.
Confidence managing incidents of challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills.
A calm, patient and resilient approach.
The ability to maintain professional boundaries while building trust.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience working with teenage boys would be beneficial.
A background in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, care, security or support work would be advantageous.
Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.
You don't necessarily need previous classroom experience. If you have strong hands-on experience managing challenging behaviour and supporting young people, we'd like to hear from you.
