Teaching Assistant

  • Location: Kensington and Chelsea
  • Position: Teaching Assistant
  • Start date: ASAP (September)
  • Pay: £1700 - £2300 per month
  • Temp to Perm
  • A primary school based in Kensington and Chelsea are looking for a teaching assistant to join a KS1 classroom as soon as possible in the winter term with the view to go permanent before the end of the academic year for the right candidate. The successful teaching assistant will be joining the schools established SEN department to assist a student with mild ASD in a 1:1 role. Your main responsibility will be to enhance the pupils learning either individually away from the class in sensory rooms and quiet areas of the school or as a group.

    The school is in a new building that was recently renovated during the pandemic and has great facilities to assist SEN students. This year they are almost at full capacity with 2 classrooms per year group ranging from EYFS up to Year 6. You will be joining a school that focuses on a set of shared values that help the students to work cooperatively and with respect. Positivity, diversity,honesty, harmony and friendship are important to all pupils, staff and parents at the school.

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TEACHING ASSISTANT:

    Teaching Assistant Support for Pupils

  • Support pupils to make good academic progress, under the direction of the teacher and Inclusion leader
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Implement group or 1:1 interventions to support pupils who have emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
  • Teaching Assistant Support for Teachers

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils' work
  • Use strategies, under the direction of the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Discuss with the teacher how learning activities are to be organised and what their own support role will be
  • Monitor pupils' responses to learning activities and accurately record and feedback to the teacher as directed
  • QUALIFICATIONS FOR TEACHING ASSISTANT

    Desirable for teaching assistant:

  • An honours degree (preferably Upper Second) or equivalent
