About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within a school setting in Blackpool. This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive individual who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, external professionals, and parents/carers to deliver tailored support that meets the pupil's academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with complex SEN needs.
- Implement and adapt learning activities to support the pupil's individual education plan (IEP/EHCP).
- Promote engagement, independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
- Support the pupil with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to relevant staff.
- Assist with personal care requirements where necessary.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
- Support the pupil during classroom activities, breaktimes, educational visits, and other school-related activities.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and follow all school policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience supporting children with SEN in a school, specialist provision, or alternative education setting.
- Strong understanding of a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Learning difficulties and developmental delays
- Experience working on a 1:1 basis with pupils who require personalised interventions.
- Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education, or SEN Support.
- Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive handling/de-escalation training.
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.
- Knowledge of therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
- First Aid certification.
