Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Full-Time

Location: Skelmersdale

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Role Overview

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Skelmersdale, supporting pupils aged 4-11 with a range of additional learning needs. This rewarding role involves working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support, helping pupils achieve their individual learning goals in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities across the primary curriculum
  • Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning programmes
  • Encourage pupils' independence, confidence, and social development through positive interactions and consistent support
  • Promote positive behaviour using effective behaviour management strategies and school policies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, parents, and external agencies to support pupil progress
  • Assist with personal care where required, ensuring pupils' dignity, wellbeing, and safety are always maintained
  • Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable
  • A patient, compassionate, and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Good understanding of a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
