About the Role
We are recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision high school in Standish. You will support secondary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them re-engage with education and achieve their potential.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour or require additional support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
- Support students in accessing a personalised and adapted curriculum
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships to improve engagement and attendance
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and mental health development
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviour
Requirements
- Experience working with young people with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs (essential)
- Experience in Alternative Provision or similar settings (desirable)
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
