A school in Tower Hamlets are seeking a dedicated and motivational KS5 Mentor to join our vibrant post‑16 team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the academic progress, attendance and personal development of students in Years 12 and 13.
Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral leaders and external agencies, the KS5 Mentor will provide targeted academic and pastoral support to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This role would suit someone passionate about education, youth mentoring and widening participation, particularly for students from diverse or disadvantaged backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring for KS5 students
- Support students with study skills, organisation, motivation and time management
- Monitor and track attendance, punctuality, behaviour and progress
- Build positive, professional relationships with students, acting as a trusted mentor
- Support students with post‑16 pathways, including university, apprenticeships and employment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, tutors and pastoral teams
- Moniter study/library sessions
- Liaise with parents/carers where appropriate
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings
- Act as a positive role model, promoting high expectations and aspirations
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with young people aged 16-18 (education, mentoring, youth work or similar)
- A strong understanding of KS5 education and post‑16 pathways
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Calm, patient and resilient, with a supportive and encouraging approach
- Able to motivate students and build rapport quickly
- Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusion
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in a school, college or sixth‑form setting
- Knowledge of A Levels, BTECs or vocational qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in education, youth work or psychology
