Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and nurturing primary school team. The successful candidate will support the class teacher in delivering high-quality education and care to children aged 5-7 years, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging lessons and activities.
  • Work with small groups or individual pupils to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Assist with phonics, reading, writing, and numeracy interventions.
  • Promote positive behaviour and help manage classroom routines.
  • Support children with additional needs, including SEN, EAL, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Prepare resources and materials for lessons and activities.
  • Supervise pupils during break times, transitions, and school trips.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including assemblies and events.
  • Person Specification

    Essential:

  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting.
  • Understanding of the KS1 curriculum and child development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Good organisational skills and initiative.
  • Desirable:

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting children with SEN or behavioural needs.
  • First Aid or Safeguarding training.
  • Safeguarding Statement
