ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Southwark, South London Position: 1:1 ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant (Year 6 Support) Start Date: November 2025 Pay: £95 - £115 per day
Veritas Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southwark to recruit a compassionate and experienced ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with additional needs from November 2025.
This OFSTED-rated 'Good' school is well regarded for its nurturing ethos and commitment to inclusion. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, providing one-to-one support both within the classroom and in an intervention setting, helping the pupil to access learning, regulate emotions, and build confidence.

The Ideal ASD/SEMH Teaching Assistant Will Have:
Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASD and SEMH (essential)
A trauma-informed approach and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate and support emotional regulation
Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with pupils who have additional needs
Main Responsibilities Include:
Providing 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil within the classroom and in a separate intervention room
Assisting the class teacher in delivering differentiated and targeted learning activities
Supporting the child's social, emotional, and behavioural development
Using creative strategies and trauma-informed practices to promote engagement and understanding
Monitoring progress and reporting observations to the class teacher and SENCO
