Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only + 5 days
Location: Middlesbrough Pay rate: £110 - £125 p/day Start Date: ASAP (subject to clearances) DBS: Enhanced Child Workforce - must be registered on the Update Service Contract: Long-term temporary with potential to become permanent
Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive both academically and emotionally? On behalf of a good client school based in Middlesbrough, Veritas are seeking a dedicated and proactive Student Support Assistant to join a vibrant and inclusive 11-16 secondary school in Middlesbrough.
This is a key pastoral role within the school, working closely with Year Leaders and the wider Student Support Team to:
- Provide day-to-day support and guidance to students across all year groups.
- Address behaviour, attendance, and emotional wellbeing concerns.
- Support reintegration meetings, internal exclusions, and pastoral interventions.
- Act as a visible presence around school, including during break and lunch duties.
- Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and welfare processes.
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience in a pastoral, behaviour, or student welfare role in a secondary, FE or HE setting.
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Confidence using school systems and maintaining accurate records.
- A current Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service.
This role is offered on a long-term temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
