SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary School - Blackburn Full-Time | Long-Term | Potential Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Blackburn, who are looking to appoint an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant.
This is a full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties.
Requirements:
- A recognised qualification in supporting teaching and learning (minimum Level 2 required)
- Level 3 or HLTA qualifications are welcomed
- Proven experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably in a secondary school setting
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations
- Committed, reliable, and confident working as part of a wider support team
Role Responsibilities:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN
- Assisting pupils with classroom engagement, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to implement individual learning plans
- Supporting the wider school community to maintain an inclusive and safe learning environment
- Contributing to progress reviews and liaising with external professionals when required

- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
- Contract: Long-term with the possibility of becoming permanent
