We're looking for a caring, patient and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal child who is starting Reception at a welcoming primary school in Blackburn.
This is a full-time role, running for the entire academic year, and offers a fantastic opportunity to build a meaningful relationship and provide consistent, nurturing support during a key transition into school life.
What you'll be doing:
- Working 1:1 with the child throughout the day, offering calm and reassuring support as they settle into Reception.

- Helping with classroom routines, transitions, and tasks tailored to the child's developmental stage and learning needs.
- Collaborating closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to follow EHCP targets and personalised strategies.
- Creating a consistent, supportive environment where the child can feel safe, confident and included.
What we're looking for:
- Experience supporting children with communication needs, especially non-verbal pupils
- A nurturing, consistent and adaptable approach - someone who can stay calm, patient and positive throughout the day.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a wider support team.
- Experience in EYFS or KS1 settings
- Ideally familiar with early years SEN strategies (e.g. sensory support, communication boards, structured routines).
Important Information:
- All applicants must be willing to complete an Enhanced DBS Check and provide references.
- Your CV should cover your last 10 years of work history, with explanations for any gaps.
- You must have the legal right to work in the UK and be available for registration.
