Reception Class Teaching Assistant - Supply Cover | Blackburn Full-time 8:45-15:30
We're looking for a warm, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support a Reception class at a welcoming primary school in Blackburn. This is a full-time, supply role, providing essential classroom support including phonics and help for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The school is seeking someone who can bring energy and consistency to the classroom during this cover period - someone who builds relationships easily, adapts quickly, and understands the needs of early years learners.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the teacher in delivering high-quality phonics sessions (e.g. using schemes like Read Write Inc or Letters and Sounds).
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support for children with additional needs.
- Assisting with classroom routines, including transitions, play-based learning, and early development tasks.
- Supporting children's social, emotional and communication development through encouragement and positive reinforcement.
- Helping maintain a calm and structured classroom environment, particularly during busy parts of the day.
What we're looking for:
- Experience in EYFS or Key Stage 1, in a classroom-based role.
- Understanding of phonics delivery and early literacy strategies.
- A supportive, nurturing attitude and ability to follow guidance from the class teacher and SENCO.
- Experience working with SEN pupils (e.g. speech and language needs, autism, developmental delay) is a strong advantage.
- Someone flexible, reliable and ready to make a positive impact - even in a short timeframe.
Important Information:
- All applicants must be willing to complete an Enhanced DBS Check and provide suitable references.
- Your CV should cover the last 10 years of work history, with explanations for any employment gaps.
- You must have the legal right to work in the UK and be available for registration.
