SEN Teaching Assistant - Waltham Forest
Location: Waltham Forest, East London Start Date: ASAP Full-Time | Long-Term Position Posted by: Veritas Education
Veritas Education is working with a welcoming and inclusive school in Waltham Forest to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time, long-term role starting immediately, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
You will be working both 1:1 with students and supporting small groups, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to pupils with identified SEN
- Assist in delivering targeted interventions for small groups
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management
- Collaborate with teachers and the SENCO to implement individual learning plans
- Encourage independence, confidence and progress in learning
- Maintain accurate records of pupil development and report back to staff
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Confidence in supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Calm, patient and proactive approach to learning support
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of SEN strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, TEACCH)
- Experience in primary or secondary school settings
- Relevant TA or SEN training/certifications
