About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a vibrant mixed secondary school in Sunderland for students aged 11-16. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
As a HLTA, you will work closely with students who require focused intervention to support a range of needs, including learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and emotional or social difficulties. You will be responsible for delivering tailored support in and outside the classroom, ensuring that each student receives the individualized care they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Ideal Candidate:
- will have experience working with students with SEMH needs, ideally within a school or educational setting. Experience of working as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA, or in a related role is essential.
- HLTA qualification (or equivalent) is highly desirable. You should have a strong understanding of the needs of children with SEMH and other additional learning needs.
- Will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- You should be calm, patient, and resilient in dealing with challenging situations.
