About the School
An independent specialist school for children aged 5-11 with Autism is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) Assistant to join its growing team. The school recently achieved an Outstanding rating from Ofsted (July 2025) and is embarking on an exciting journey of expansion, with plans to grow into a multi-site provision. You'll be joining a collaborative therapy team that includes a Speech and Language Therapist and an Occupational Therapist.
The Role
As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting the delivery of communication-focused interventions for autistic children. Working under the guidance of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, you'll help implement individualised therapy programmes, support classroom communication strategies, and contribute to the development of pupils' speech, language, and social interaction skills.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in special educational needs (SEN) who wants to make a measurable impact in a setting that values innovation, empathy, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Speech and Language Therapy programmes designed by the therapist.
- Support children in classrooms to access communication and learning opportunities.
- Facilitate the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems such as PECS, Makaton, and electronic devices.
- Record observations and assist with data collection to monitor pupil progress.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create communication-rich environments.
Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a school or clinical setting.
- Understanding of communication difficulties and how to adapt approaches to meet individual needs.
- Knowledge or experience of AAC systems is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently under supervision.
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic about supporting neurodivergent learners.
