Autism and Communication Specialist - Teaching Assistant
Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with autism and communication challenges?
At Veritas Education, we're partnering with a variety of special schools in Doncaster and are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a class of pupils with autism and communication barriers. If you have experience in this area, we'd love to hear from you!
The Role
- You will be supporting a class of 6 pupils, working alongside the teacher to assist students with autism and communication difficulties.
- You'll help create and maintain engaging classroom materials and displays to enhance the learning environment.
- Providing personal care and hygiene support will be part of your role.
- You'll work closely with the teacher to identify any additional needs each pupil may have and help adapt care and learning plans accordingly.
- Supporting students in their daily activities to ensure they stay engaged and make progress is key to the role.
- You'll help students overcome communication barriers using techniques like Phonics and Makaton.
Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience working with children or young adults with autism and communication challenges is essential.
- Skills in Phonics, Makaton, or British Sign Language are highly desirable.
- Patience and the ability to stay calm under pressure are a must.
- You'll need to be able to understand and respond to pupils' emotional and physical reactions.
- Knowledge and experience in Phonics is especially beneficial for this role.
