SEMH Teaching Assistant - Stevenage £105-£120 per day | Full-time, ASAP start
We are looking for a resilient and committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Stevenage, supporting students with a range of additional needs including ASD, ADHD, ODD, and trauma-related behaviours.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be working closely with pupils who may struggle to engage in a traditional classroom environment. Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are key, as you'll be helping to create a supportive space where students can build trust, develop confidence, and make real progress.
The role will include:
1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and SEN needs
Helping pupils regulate emotions and behaviour during lessons and around school
Assisting with learning activities across core subjects
Supporting teachers with classroom management and adapting resources where needed
Acting as a positive role model and encouraging resilience and independence
We're looking for someone who:
Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour (school, youth work, care, coaching backgrounds all considered)
Is confident, patient, and able to de-escalate situations calmly
Brings empathy, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable students
Is available full-time and ready to start ASAP
This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, rewarding environment and wants to make a real impact on the lives of young people.
