Early Years SENCO
Location: Nelson Job Type: Full-Time Salary: £25,714 - £27,280 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications) Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible shifts between 7:30am - 6:00pm
About Us:
We are currently recruiting for a well-established private nursery in Nelson with a strong commitment to inclusive early years education. As they continue to grow, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to join their team.
This is a key role for a motivated practitioner who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping staff deliver inclusive, high-quality learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the identification, planning, and support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies
Work closely with parents, carers, external professionals, and agencies to ensure coordinated care and early intervention
Guide and support colleagues in implementing inclusive practices
Monitor children's progress and ensure accurate documentation and records are maintained
Contribute to and deliver staff training related to SEND and inclusion
Ensure compliance with current SEND legislation and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Essential Requirements:
Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Childcare/Early Years
Substantial experience supporting children with SEND in an early years setting
Strong working knowledge of:
Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Portage and other early intervention strategies
The SEND Code of Practice
Experience liaising with external professionals (e.g. health visitors, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists)
Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
Ability to mentor and support a team in inclusive, child-centred practice
Desirable:
SENCO qualification or training (or willingness to undertake it)
