Veritas Education is working closely with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Southwark, South East London, to recruit an experienced and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with challenging behaviour and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, starting September 2025.
This is a vital role within the school, working directly with pupils who need consistent, firm, and compassionate behaviour support. The successful candidate will need to remain calm under pressure, be proactive in de-escalation techniques, and be committed to helping every child succeed.
The Teaching Assistant Will Have:
A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
Substantial experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and/or SEMH
A strong background in behaviour management strategies
Experience working with children with autism, ADHD, or attachment-related difficulties
A calm, consistent, and patient approach to working with vulnerable children
Excellent communication, resilience, and teamwork skills
Key Teaching Assistant Responsibilities Include:
Providing consistent, one-to-one support to pupils with challenging behaviour
Implementing behaviour support plans and working closely with the SENCo and pastoral team
Supporting children in and out of the classroom to help them engage with learning
Assisting the teacher in maintaining a structured and positive classroom environment
Helping pupils to develop emotional regulation, self-esteem, and social skills
