1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Newham
Location: Newham, East London Start Date: ASAP Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity Posted by: Veritas Education
Veritas Education is working with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Newham to recruit a committed 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. This full-time role is to start immediately and will involve providing focused support for a pupil with special educational needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual with experience in SEN support, particularly in a 1:1 setting.
The Role:
- Supporting a primary-aged pupil with identified SEN needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties)
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver a tailored support plan
- Helping the pupil access learning, regulate emotions, and engage with the wider school environment
- Using strategies such as visual timetables, sensory breaks, and positive reinforcement
- Maintaining regular progress reports and feedback to staff and parents
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children with SEN, ideally in a 1:1 role
- Confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Calm, consistent, and nurturing approach
- A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Desirable:
- Knowledge of SEN strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH
- Previous experience in a mainstream or specialist setting
- Relevant TA or SEN training/certifications
