Are you kind, patient, and passionate about helping young people with special educational needs reach their full potential? We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a warm and welcoming Designated Provision in Sunderland.
Our client school provides a highly specialised setting for students aged 11-19 with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex medical needs. As an LSA, you'll play a vital role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom - helping them to communicate, engage in learning, and grow in confidence and independence.
Key Duties:
- Work closely with teachers to support personalised learning activities.
- Provide physical and emotional support to students, including help with mobility, feeding, and communication.
- Assist with personal care routines, including toileting and hygiene, in a respectful and dignified way.
- Support students in using communication aids such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC systems.
- Build trust with all stakeholders to promote consistent care and progress.
What We're Looking For:
- A caring, proactive, and resilient approach to working with young people with high levels of need.
- Experience in a special school, care, or healthcare setting is highly desirable - but full training will be provided.
- Willingness to carry out personal care and medical support (following training and guidance).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
