Teaching Assistant - SEN Support (Graduate Role)

Location: Waltham Forest, East London Salary: £100-£110 per day Hours: 8:20am-4:00pm | Full-time, Term-Time Only Start Date: September 2025 (Trial Days in June/July)

Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting young people with special educational needs (SEN)? Do you have experience working in a secondary school or supporting individuals with SEN, and want to build a career in education or psychology?

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a calm, committed and emotionally intelligent Teaching Assistant to join their SEN support team from September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates-particularly those with a background in Psychology-to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

About the Role:

You will be working across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted support to students with additional needs in both classroom and one-on-one settings. You'll play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEN in lessons and during structured interventions

  • Help implement individual learning plans under the guidance of the SENCO and teaching staff

  • Use strategies to support behaviour and emotional needs in a calm and consistent manner

  • Build trusting relationships with students, offering encouragement and motivation

  • Monitor and record student progress, sharing insights with the wider pastoral and teaching team

  • Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds a degree (Psychology or related subjects preferred)

  • Has experience supporting young people with SEN or SEMH needs

  • Has worked in a secondary school or youth support setting (e.g. mentoring, tutoring, care)

  • Is emotionally resilient, patient and confident managing behaviour

  • Is passionate about inclusion and supporting students who learn differently

  • What the School Offers:

  • A supportive SEN team and experienced teaching staff

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Opportunities to progress into teaching, educational psychology, or therapy pathways

  • A diverse and caring school environment where every child is valued

  • If you're a graduate with experience supporting SEN and want to make a genuine difference in a mainstream school setting, we'd love to hear from you. Early applications are encouraged - trial days available in June and July.
