Are you a compassionate and experienced teacher looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference? This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist setting supporting students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, working in small classes of just five pupils.
Role Overview
As an SEMH Teacher, you will:
- Teach and support students aged 11-16 who are working at primary levels.
- Deliver a tailored curriculum that meets the individual needs of each student.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment to support academic, social, and emotional progress.
- Foster strong relationships with pupils to help them overcome barriers to learning and build self-confidence.
- Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching & Learning: Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with each student's needs, adapting your approach for small group sizes.
- Pastoral Support: Provide effective care to support emotional well-being and personal development.
- Behaviour Management: Promote positive behaviour strategies to maintain a calm and supportive learning environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teaching assistants, parents, and external agencies to create a holistic support network for pupils.
Person Specification
Essential Skills:
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching children with SEMH or additional needs.
- Suitable for teachers with a background in primary or secondary education.
- Ability to engage students working below age-expected levels in a creative and empathetic manner.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Additional training or qualifications in SEN/SEMH (desirable).
Personal Qualities:
- Patient, caring, and committed to inclusive education.
- Resilient and adaptable, with strong classroom management skills.
- Organised and proactive in meeting the needs of vulnerable students.
